Ciudad Madero is a coastal city located on the Gulf of Mexico in the southeastern part of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Lying within the metropolitan area of Tampico (which includes Tampico, Madero and Altamira). Being at the edge of the sister states of Tamaulipas and Veracruz, it serves as a bridge for both of them into the sea. The port being at close proximity to the port in Altamira also serves as an advantage, since it can coordinate and work in tandem with another important port.
The maritime activities of the port are a key component of the region’s economy, which is primarily based on petrochemical industries, with significant petrochemical production plants located around the metropolitan area. It also serves as a principal Gulf coast container port and handles major general and bulk cargo. The port’s importance is underscored by its substantial land availability, combining the ports of Madero and Altamira, they have 40,000 hectares designated for potential use, indicating its capacity for significant future growth.
PRODAR has helped in the growth and management of this port by creating marine terminals. They handle them by using the Puerto Inteligente y Seguro initiative that the Government of Mexico is pushing. Which Objective is to have a port that works flawlessly with both inland and maritime activities, reducing the probability of risks.
